DEATH: was employed for 32 years. She will be well remembered for her cheerful disposition and kind deeds for everyone while she was
DEATH: waitress for so many years at this hotel. She also tenderly cared for her mother in her last years.
DEATH: In Sept. 1953, she was united in marriage to Arnold Heath who predeceased her in Nov. 1959.
DEATH: Two brothers and two sisters predeceased her at an early age and around 1922 at the time of the typhoid epidemic, she lost her
DEATH: sister Mamie; a few years ago her sister Mabel (Mrs. Nelson Lahue) of Newport, Vt., passed away.

DEATH: Bessie Jane Aiken passed away suddenly early Friday morning
DEATH: on February 9, 1979, in her home on Main St., Mansonville,
DEATH: Quebec. In her latter years, Bessie was an active person,
DEATH: but suffered from hardening of the arteries, which
DEATH: eventually took her life.
DEATH: She was born December 28, 1898, in the section of Ruiter
DEATH: Brook near Dunkin, Que., a daughter of the late Herman
DEATH: Sargent and his wife, Effie Randall Sargent.
DEATH: She attended the old rural school at Dunkin to its final
DEATH: grade and afterwards stayed home to help her parents, as
DEATH: was the case during those years.
DEATH: She married Wallace Lawrence Aiken on December 23, 1918, at
DEATH: North Troy, Vt. Of this union, one daughter, Gloria, was
DEATH: born.
DEATH: Bessie lived all her life on the home farm near Dunkin
DEATH: until she and her husband retired in 1969 and then moved to
DEATH: Mansonville. Bessie was a quiet living person and she and
DEATH: her husband were wonderful to visit with. Her home was her
DEATH: castle and the welcome mat was out for everyone. On
DEATH: Sundays her house was usually filled with relatives and
DEATH: friends. She will be sadly missed by many. Notes to Mr.
DEATH: Aiken on cards of sympathy will attest to this.
DEATH: She was predeceased by a brother, Elwin Sargent of Waterloo
DEATH: in 1977, and a sister, Mrs. Gerald Warner of North Troy,
DEATH: Vt., in 1967.
DEATH: She is survived by her husband, Wallace, and her daughter
DEATH: and son-in-law, Gloria and Jerry Cabana, as well as her
DEATH: granddaughter, Linda Lee, and her great-granddaughter,
DEATH: Crystal, all of Mansonville; also two sisters, Mrs. Lila
DEATH: Truax of Waterbury, Vt., and Mrs. Helen Worden of Waterloo,
DEATH: Que., and several nieces and nephews.
DEATH: The funeral services were held in the Mansonville Baptist
DEATH: Church on Monday, February 12, the Rev. J.A. Steeves
DEATH: officiating, assisted by the Rev. Neil Wallace of the
DEATH: Mansonville United Church, who also joined the choir. They
DEATH: sang favorite hymns requested by Bessie in her earlier
DEATH: years of life, The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden,
DEATH: accompanied by organist Mrs. Harold Aiken.
DEATH: The bearers were two nephews, Ian Heath and Richard Newell,
DEATH: and friends of the family, Lyle Gardner, George Hamelin,
DEATH: Kenneth Jones and Garth Clark, all of Potton Township.
DEATH: The remains were committed to the vault of the Mansonville
DEATH: Protestant Cemetery and will be interred in early Spring in
DEATH: the Ruiter Settlement Cemetery at Dunkin, Que.
DEATH: Following the services, luncheon was furnished and served by
DEATH: the ladies of the Mansonville Baptist Church and the
DEATH: Mansonville United Church in the basement hall of the
DEATH: latter church mentioned here.
DEATH: Those attending the services came from Waterbury and North
DEATH: Troy, Vt., Prescott, Ont., Montreal, Waterloo, Eastman,
DEATH: Knowlton, as well as East Bolton and Potton Townships in
DEATH: the Province of Quebec.

DEATH: DUNKIN - The death of Charles Newell occurred suddenly at
DEATH: his home on April 6, 1965.
DEATH: Mr. Newell was born in North Stanbridge on October 30,
DEATH: 1894, the son of the late George Newell and his wife, Lucy
DEATH: Taber. He spent his entire life after the age of 14 years
DEATH: on the farm at Dunkin, with the exception of two years in
DEATH: Derry N.H., two years in Minneapolis, Minn., and the time
DEATH: spent in the armed forces in France, where he was wounded
DEATH: in action.
DEATH: He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Potton
DEATH: Branch, No. 154. He served on the Town Council for four
DEATH: years and always displayed a lively interest in municipal
DEATH: affairs. His one hobby was flowers.
DEATH: On June 12, 1923, he married Catherine Aiken. They had
DEATH: eight children, all of whom survive him. One sister, Kate
DEATH: of Minneapolis, Minn., predeceased him in January 1929,
DEATH: also his brother, Guy of the same place, who died in April
DEATH: 1963.
DEATH: Surviving are a sister, Hazel, Mrs. Leon Elridge, of
DEATH: Mansonville; two brothers, Harold, of Mankato, Minn., and
DEATH: Arlin, of Dover, N.H.; his wife and children, Mae, Mrs.
DEATH: Bruno Rinkevicius of Longueuil; Robert, Highwater; Shirley,
DEATH: Mrs. Real Beaulac of Sutton; Richard, and Betty, Mrs. Ian
