DEATH: since early fall 1986. He was born July 5, 1912 at West Hill, near Mansonville - the third child and only son of Frank Aiken
DEATH: and Josephine Jersey. He spent his early childhood in the area, attended the old Learned school and helped his father on the
DEATH: family farm.
DEATH: At an early age he accepted Christ as his Saviour, was baptised and joined the Mansonville Baptist Church. He acted as Sunday
DEATH: School Superintendent, then later as church trustee and deacon. Harold loved music, often played the harmonica, guitar,
DEATH: accordion and violin to provide amusement for others.
DEATH: In 1944 he married a school teacher, Verlie Waldron of Scotstown, purchased the farm from his father which he worked until he
DEATH: suffered eye injury and had to sell out. They moved to Dunkin and Harold worked for Blair Veneer Co., North Troy,. Vt.;
DEATH: Mansonville Lumber Co.; Mansonville Plastics and Highwater Space Agency. He was a conscientious worker, devoted husband,
DEATH: father, grandfather and a good neighbour.
DEATH: Harold was predeceased by his father, mother, sister Florence (in 1940); sister Maud - Mrs. Carl Merriam of North Troy, Vt. (in
DEATH: 1978), and sister Mabel - Mrs. Perley Button of Montreal (in 1986). He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Verlie; one sister,
DEATH: Evelyn Macey of Sawyerville; his daughter, Andria and Bruce Smith of Newport Centre, Vt.; his son, Roy and Barbara Aiken of
DEATH: West Brome; grandchildren, Debra and Chris Wilcox of Olympia, Wshington; Cheryl and Joanne Smith of Burlington, Vt.; Harold,
DEATH: Bonnie, Ian, Colin and Sarah Aiken of West Brome; besides a host of relatives and friends. He was tenderly cared for by his
DEATH: wife, assisted by sister, Evelyn.
DEATH: The remains rested at the Desourdy Wilson Funeral Home in Mansonville where friends and relatives called on Thursday evening,
DEATH: Friday afternoon and evening. On Saturday, May 23rd at 1:45 p.m. the family gathered for prayers and then proceeded to the
DEATH: Baptist Church where the service was conducted by Pastor Walter Stairs. Two hymns "O Mighty God (How Great Thou Art)" and
DEATH: "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Mrs. Marilyn Stairs on the organ. Mr. Stairs
DEATH: delivered an inspiring message and spoke words of hope and comfort to all.
DEATH: Bearers were Ward, Bryon and Marvin Sherrer, John Aiken, John White and Wayne Bedard.
DEATH: The well filled church, donations in his memory to the B.M.P. Hospital, Cancer Society, Ruiter Brook Settlement Cemetery,
DEATH: Canadian Bible Society, Word of Grace Radio programme, the Sherman Residence; and the host of people who called were an
DEATH: outspoken token of the esteem in which Harold was held.
DEATH: After burial in the cemetery, all gathered at the Church Hall for light refreshments. Those who attended from a distance
DEATH: included Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Aiken, Prescott, Ontario; Mr. and Mrs. Harold McEnroe, Montreal N.; Duncan McLeod, Milan; Mr. and
DEATH: Mrs. Daniel Waldron, Ottawa; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Waldron and Erin of Phillipsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Harbinson, Cookshire; Mr.
DEATH: and Mrs. Ellis Waldron, Montreal; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon French, Mildred Waldron, Frances and Audrey Bain, Sawyerville; Mr. and
DEATH: Mrs. Wesley Merriam, East Montpelier, Vt.; Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Merriam, Westfield, Vt.; Dianne Santaw, Newport, Vt.; Mrs.
DEATH: Agnes Judd and Mrs. Martha Sargent, North Troy, Vt.; Mrs. Richard McAllister, East Richford, Vt.; as well as many from the
DEATH: surrounding areas.
